What is bullet journalling?

Bullet journalling is a system created by Ryder Carroll. He invented a way of planning and systemising your daily tasks to maximise productivity.

He developed the use of different symbols, or ‘bullets’ to assign priorities to your tasks, and set up a notebook with contents pages, monthly calendars and events in a way that is easy to view at a glance.

This concept was adopted by creative journallers who use art in various ways to decorate their journals and the idea exploded worldwide.

There are now thousands upon thousands of people bullet journalling as a way of tracking and planning their mental health, daily tasks, habits, for fun and to keep on top of their to-do list in a fun and creative way.

120 gsm or 170 gsm?

GSM (grams per square metre) is the weight of the paper – the higher the GSM, the heavier the paper.

The 170 gsm paper is almost as thick as card and is suited for journallers who like to use watercolour, markers, and heavier inks for their journal because the paper quality and weight means that there is no ghosting through the other side. Please note, after using watercolours or any other type of paint, the page buckles slightly when dry, this is because the paper although able to tolerate watercolour paints, is not specifically designed purely for watercolours. But, you will get immense satisfaction from the crinkle sound it makes!

The 120 gsm is also very versatile because it allows for fountain pens, ball points, colouring pens and holds stickers and glue really well. It’s the thickness of the paper used for fancy documents and brochures.

What’s with the dots?

The dots allow you to create your own uniform boxes, lines, tables, diagrams, drawings and shapes to customise your journal the way you want. It is less obvious than lines, but still keeps a structure in place for you to be able to write neatly, or not! You can use the dots to create writing styles of different sizes, particularly great if you’re trying lettering or new fonts.

You can flip the page on it’s side and still create your own unique bullet journal page while keeping everything neat and  not worrying about lines going the wrong way!

The dots help to keep everything straight, apply stickers and tapes evenly to help you create those stunning insta worthy spreads!

Why not offer 160 gsm like everyone else?

Well… two reasons:

  1. 160 gsm is not actually a standard paper weight for the UK. It is available in the UK but with more processing and/or mileage attached to it, and we don’t do excessive mileage at Acacia & Pine.
  2. We are not like everyone else. Simple.

I don’t want to paint or bullet journal, can I just write in it?

Yes! The paper is acid free and extremely smooth for writing in with your choice of pen! If you like your notebooks chunky then buy the 170 gsm otherwise the 120 gsm is perfect for a writing journal.

Can I return my personalised item?

Unfortunately, we can not accept returns on any personalised items due to the customisation unless there is a manufacturing fault with the personalisation. Please check and double check the personalisation before confirming the order to avoid any problems!

How long does delivery take?

We aim to dispatch same day if the order is placed before 12:00 pm and delivery via courier will take 3 – 5 working days.

For next day deliveries, please place your order by 12:00 pm for next day delivery.

Why does my page buckle after my paint has dried?

Please note, after using watercolours or any other type of paint, the page buckles slightly when dry, this is because the paper although able to tolerate watercolour paints, is not specifically designed purely for watercolours. But, you will get immense satisfaction from the crinkle sound it makes!

What are your environmental promises?

I am an Earth and Environmental scientist. Every claim you see here on this site is backed by science. I can’t operate in any other way. The printers are local, the website lady (Hi Debs!) is local, we are completely plastic free, we plant trees (we actually, physically go out and plant trees too), I walk to my local courier centre to drop off parcels and I don’t offer international delivery…(yet. I am just not happy with the couriers eco-policies for international shipping, but if you lovely people have a great company in mind at reasonable rates, please let me know!)
